Bodies pile up after clashes in Central African Republic

Many of the bodies were picked up on the streets of the capitol of Central African Republic.

Red Cross workers recovered 44 bodies earlier in the week, after interreligious fighting.

The Red Cross says this is likely only a fraction of the dead.

This man's younger brother was killed in the crossfire.

(SOUNDBITE) (French) DIDIER FLORENTIN IBRAHIM, BROTHER OF VICTIM, SAYING:

"I especially want to appeal to the government, to the people who have the power. You see this case -- a young man, very young man like this, he hasn't yet had a chance to have a career, or anything. We lost him like that. So really the government should take its responsibilities seriously."

French troops are on patrol hoping to help stem the violence in a tense country where new chapters on slaughter come almost daily.

Six peacekeepers from Chad were recently killed in the former French colony.
