Egyptian police say former prime minister Hisham Kandil has been arrested while trying to flee the country to Sudan.
Security forces say they were enforcing an April sentence of one year’s imprisonment upheld on appeal in September.
This related to Kandil defying a court order, while he was deposed president Mohamed Morsi’s prime minister, to renationalise a textile factory privatised when former president Hosni Mubarak was still in power.
Egypt’s security forces are another step closer to having a full house of the Muslim Brotherhood leadership behind bars, but no closer to assuring public safety.
The loss of life from the Christmas Eve carbomb in Mansoura, southern Egypt, which killed 15 and wounded 140 was proof of continued instability. It was quickly condemned by the Brotherhood.
