It's a 'feliz navidad' for a handful of Spaniards this holiday season.

Streets are abuzz in Spain over the "El Gordo" Christmas lottery.

That's Spanish for 'The Fat One'. And it's been the heftiest year thus far in the lottery's 200 year history.

The first prize totaled four million euros, or nearly 5.5 million U.S. dollars, spread across a series of 10 tickets.

This year's lucky number was 62246.

The hugely popular Christmas lottery boasts one of the biggest prize funds on earth.

It's a bit of a miracle for Alfonso Martinez, a 53 year-old top prize winner.

He recently lost his job.
