Dogs have an uncanny ability to survive. A golden retriever in Wisconsin managed to go two weeks without food or water, while being trapped in a metal culvert.

The dog, named Mercedes, originally went missing on November 22nd, but all of the attempts to find her proved to be futile. Amazingly, Mercedes was right across the street from her home the entire time.

Vernon county animal control officer Seth Young was responsible for finding the pooch in the culvert. The local fire department was immediately contacted to assist in the life saving efforts.

The Jaws of Life were used to pry opened the culvert and give rescuers enough room to pull her out using a catch hole. The frantic efforts were captured on film thanks to a cell phone.

Thankfully, Mercedes was bought to safety without injury, however she was exceptionally thirsty and hungry. Authorities believe she climbed through the metal culvert in an effort to escape the wind and cold.

According to reports, her human family was absolutely ecstatic to have her back home safe and sound.
