U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel meets Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief Raheel Sharif in Islamabad, to discuss security and the use of U.S. drones against militants in remote areas.

"The General and I had a very good and productive meeting. We talked about many of our mutual common interests and the things that are important to both sides. And how we very much look forward to working together and strengthening our relationship," Hagel said.

The United States has long had a complicated relationship with Pakistan and ties have been further soured by a dispute over U.S. drones targeting militants.

Islamabad says such strikes kill too many civilians and violate its sovereignty.

A senior U.S. defense official said Hagel hoped to work with Pakistan to deepen the security partnership.
