Thailand’s prime minister is to dissolve parliament and call elections as soon as possible.
The announcement came as thousands of Thais once again took to the streets in Bangkok.
Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban has responded saying the demonstrations will continue.
Premier Yingluck Shinawatra had proposed to hold a referendum on her future, promising to resign if the people wanted. However that appears to have been rejected with the opposition resigning their parliamentary seats.
Protesters have been calling for Yingluck to quit for weeks. But they don’t just want her to go, they also want to eradicate the influence of her self-exiled brother, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
The family has held sway in Thailand for decades.
Protests leaders are aware that Yingluck would likely win an election and want to replace her with a people’s council.
