Savenia Labs Launches World's First Light Bulb Energy & Environmental Impact Ratings

Today we are delighted to announce Savenia Labs has launched the world's first light bulb energy and environmental impact rating labels. You can view the full press releasehere. This marks our 10th product category and pushes our database to 650+ products.

We took on this challenge after realizing that comparing the total costs of 3 light bulbs required 11 mathematical calculations. Figuring our energy rating labels could do the heavy lifting for shoppers in the aisle, we began development. We built a small store at our office in Bethesda Green and worked through loads of label variations -- thanks to everyone who participated!

The single biggest consumer benefit of more efficient light bulbs is the huge cost savings. We've found that some light bulbs cost well over $100 to power and require 16 bulb changes over a standardized 15-year lighting period, while others cost as little as $20 to run over the same period with a single bulb. Considering the average home has 50 mostly energy-hungry incandescent light bulbs, shoppers stand to save big by switching to more efficient bulbs that use less energy and last longer.

Now, with our revolutionary light bulb labels, consumers can easily see how to save thousands of dollars. As always, energy costs and carbon footprints are tailored on the label to each store zip code.

In order to deliver this information for every single light bulb on the shelf so shoppers can compare, we've introduced a few new features to our labels. First is "Mini", our half size label that fits nicely next to the small bulbs but packs a full punch of information on 2 sides. Second we are introducing "Sources", a completely transparent way to show shoppers where our data comes from. Dark Green labels are independent lab tested, while White Labels come from other sources. In addition, sources are yellow highlighted on every label. We think "Mini" and "Sources" can help us expand faster and with the level of transparency that our followers have come to expect.

You can see the selection of light bulbs together with Savenia Labs Energy Ratings on the shelf at participating stores throughout the DC and Baltimore metro regions. Let us know what you think!
