I spoke to the rep from T-Mobile to give my information for the account over the phone including my name, address, dob, and ssn. This was a one year contract and at the time I asked if she renewed the contract after the term was up could she do so on her own. I was told that as long as the account was in good standing she could. Everything went fine. She made the payments for that year with no problem. When the term was up she told me she renewed on her own and my information was taken off. I did not give consent to cosign for the new contract or talk to anyone from T-Mobile. Yesterday I got a phone call from a collection agency trying to collect a debt for T-Mobile in the amount of 954.09. It seems that my friend (who I had fallen out of contact with) had last made a payment on April 24 and T -Mobile closed the account on September 9. I was told that my information was still associated with her account and I am now liable for the balance. If I don't take care of this it's going to mess up my credit which I am trying hard to rebuild after filing bankruptcy last year. What I am trying to figure out is how I can find out exactly when the contract was renewed. According to the collection agency my only course of action is to file a police report as this being fraud which is only the case if my information was used without my consent. What else can I possible do to correct this? -
