Find the best financial services for you at: SMARTFINANCESOLUTIONS.NET - Can a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy keep me from getting a job? - In 2007, the place that my husband was employed at shut down operations in Indiana and moved to Mexico. There was a mix-up with paperwork and my husband was listed as having a pension and getting severance pay. This wasn't the case. While waiting on a decision to come through on his unemployment, he was also seriously looking for work. We had a mortgage, bills and an autistic child that needed insurance, he was looking for work, not a vacation! In the meantime, we fell further and further behind on our bills, including our mortgage. In the end, we ended up filing a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy. This didn't erase our bills, just extended the time to pay them off. We are coming up on our third year of paying on the Chp. 13 and we have made every payment on time. Now, my husband is repeatedly having hours cut at work and is looking for other employment. I know when a prospective employer runs a credit check, that bankruptcy is going to show up. Will the employer see that we have been making on time payments and will that even matter? We also have a handful of medical bills for our autistic child that we are paying on, but we can't afford to pay them all off. Will this also affect his chances with a prospective employer? He has a clean employment history, no criminal record at all, has been honest about his education and previous employment history, etc. -
