Private Equity investments can be made by Private Equity firms, Venture Capitalists, Business Angels or networks of High Net Worth Individuals. Private Equity deals can start from amounts as low as £10,000 and rise into the millions, depending on the type of investor, investment strategy and stage of company. Usually the investments are used to enable expansion, fund market research, support new product development or restructure the company’s operations, management or ownership in order to provide a healthy return.
The most common types of Private Equity investment for young or emerging companies are Venture Capital or Business Angels where the investor rarely obtains majority control, but more established companies may use leveraged buyouts, distressed investments or mezzanine capital.
