Find the best financial services for you at: SMARTFINANCESOLUTIONS.NET - Trying to avoid losing my flat - what can I do? - I've rented a flat from a private landlord with my partner for 4yrs. Unfortunately we split up and he has moved out. He has continued to help me with the bills and rent for the past few months but we know we both need to move on so he's decided to stop paying and move his stuff out next month.

The problem I have is that I am going to struggle to pay for the flat on my own.

The flat was rented to couples only and as it's not my flat there isn't the option to get a lodger.

I earn a good salary but have big debts and I was refused a loan because I have 'too much credit' so although I did go to my local housing association I was patronisingly told that I don't qualify for any benefits - it seems if I was a single parent I would be a priority but I have no dependants.

I have looked for cheaper places but the rent we pay is very low for the area. Only £450 a month - it's the bills that make it mount up so I've obviously looked into getting cheaper insurance/fuel etc. and have told the council I am a single person now to get the council tax reduced.

I have paid £375 every month and the outgoings are £700 a month so that means I need to find approx another £300 at least.

I have been to the Citizens Advice Bureau and I have an appointment in a couple of weeks to sort out my debt. I am worried about bankruptcy and stuff though as I have never defaulted on anything and have never missed a payment on any of my debts so I guess I'm classed as a good customer and don't want that to be affected.

I work full time running a college course sometimes until 7-8 at night and need to be available at weekends to do open days/ recruitment etc so getting a part time job isn't an option.

Do I just wait for this appointment with the CAB and see what they can do?!

I will fight as much as possible to keep my home as it's my life - I just need some help to make sure I can keep it! Thanks! -
