Find the best financial services for you at: SMARTFINANCESOLUTIONS.NET - Can a divorce be granted right away if the other person doesn't show up? - My brother has filed for divorce after being separated for more than a year. It was not a legal separation. She up and left him. they have only been married 2 years including the whole year of separation. He got married to her even though we ( the whole family ) was against it. Turns out the whole time and even before the marriage started she was a heavy drug abuser. She told him she needed help so he married her to get her on the insurance so she could get counseling and drug treatment. They have no kids together which is great. Ultimately he found out she was back on drugs and called her out on it. They fought, just arguing, and the next day she up and left. She flitted from place to place not telling anyone where she lived. Yes he was an idiot for not filing for divorce right away. Even more so since she was running up bills left and right. now he is going to have to file bankruptcy because the amount of debt she incurred is over $15000.00 Not a smart move on his part, we did try to warn him. Anyway we only knew of 2 place that she lived at, plus it turns out she got arrested, of course let go, to make sure she came back for a court hearing.. No surprise it was Crack/ Cocaine possession. Now she has a warrant for her arrest.
She was served divorce papers or I should say the sheriffs department tried to serve her divorce papers to the last 2 known addresses of where she lived. Turns out she skipped town ( again no surprise) She has flitted across the country from New Jersey, California, Arizona, Kansas, and most recently Mississippi. We have no address. Only sightings and little info from her side of the family. He wants this divorce over as quickly as possible. i don't blame him. Thing is We don't think she'll show for the first hearing which is set next week... I mean she does have a warrant out for her arrest... It would not really benefit her if she does... my brother lives in the state of Wisconsin.. First off
Can he get the divorce at the initial/ First hearing if she doesn't show up?
If he can't how long does he have to wait for his divorce to be final?
Is it possible that he could get an annulment?
What other ways can he get the divorce to go through quickly?
He needs this divorce fast as she is continuing to use his insurance and also running up bills that he is liable for concerning they are still married.

And yes I know... my brother is a complete idiot for marrying her and then not divorcing her right away... Best thing about this is they don't have kids, that would have been even messier.

Also this is for the State of Wisconsin. -
