A team of Tehran-based roboticists is developing an aerial rescue robot designed to save people drowning near coastlines.

Pars, the brainchild of Iranian research firm RTS Labs, is a quadcopter that dispenses life preservers to drowning people. It can be deployed on land or at sea and is equipped with technology that includes GPS navigation tools, artificial intelligence and a triple-axis gyroscope.

A prototype currently holds a single life preserver, but future versions may hold up to 15 self-inflating rings.

The rescue robot also has its very own sea platform, equipped with solar panels, where multiple robots can be recharged at once.

Among the robot's most notable features are a FLIR thermal camera used to track people in the sea and LED lighting that can be used to help people in danger spot the robot in the dark.
