Halloween shock: Baby's corpse found in abandoned home in central Japan

2013-11-16 6

The corpse of a baby was found last Thursday in an uninhabited house in central Japan by a crew preparing to demolish the building.

As the house was being demolished on Halloween in the city of Hikone, an earthenware pot fell from the first floor spilling the infant's corpse along with its umbilical cord and placenta onto the ground below.

The corpse, which measured 30cm, apparently didn't rot inside the 25cm pot.

A worker who discovered the body called the police.

A neighbor told local media the house had been empty since the beginning of the year, but the door was allegedly found open just a few days ago.

The police are treating the incident as a case of corpse abandonment and are investigating whether the house's owner or former tenants were involved.
