There are a whole slew of sinister purposes for impersonating a cop. One man in Trinity, Florida had his own unique reasoning for flashing a badge that didn’t belong to him.
Charles Barry allegedly pretended to be a police officer because he wanted donuts at discounted price. According to police, Barry used his deceased father’s law enforcement badge while visiting a local Dunkin’ Donuts establishment numerous times.
He told workers that he was a US Marshall. It appeared as though Barry overused his phony status though.
An employee, suspicious of Barry’s frequent visits, tipped off legitimate police authorities. An undercover detective was sitting in the donut shop waiting on a recent Tuesday afternoon. Although Barry didn’t flash his badge, police confronted him, knowing they had the right suspect as he came in at around the same time as all his other visits.
A manager of the establishment also previously took down his license plate number. Cops located a .38-caliber handgun in his pocket and loads of ammunition in his car.
Barry was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer.
