MTV award winner Miley Cyrus in 'cannabis' stunt

In her latest eyebrow-raising stunt, Miley Cyrus lit what may have been a cannabis joint on stage at Sunday’s MTV Europe Music Awards in Amsterdam.

When she picked up her best video award for “Wrecking Ball”, the singer made a show of not finding the space for the bauble in her handbag.

“You know I couldn’t fit this award in my bag but I did find this,” she said, pulling out a hand-rolled cigarette which she lit as she walked off stage.

It appeared to be a nod to Amsterdam’s famously tolerant attitude towards cannabis.

The ex-Disney star had earlier been photographed in one of the city’s best-known coffee shops where soft drugs are on the menu.

She was pipped to the post for the best female singer prize by Katy Perry who delivered a breathtaking performance of her own.

Claiming her third EMA award, the US singer gave a dramatic rendition of her song “Unconditionally”, suspended like a sequin-covered glitter ball, nine metres above a
gigantic outer-space-themed set.

Justin Bieber held on to his best male status for a fourth consecutive year and One Direction had a good night, taking the prize for best pop.

US rapper Eminem was given a ‘Global Icon’ gong for lifetime achievement along with best hip-hop. It comes just a week after he was declared artist of the year at the inaugural YouTube Music Awards, run by MTV’s emerging music industry rival Google.
