Ever end up at an unfamiliar place after a night of partying?

On a recent Sunday, police in Charleston, South Carolina found a man stumbling around on uninhabited Drum Island. The male, identified as 35-year-old Stephen Coffee had quite a story to tell.

According to Coffee, he had spent his night working at Art’s Bar and Grill which is located in Mount Pleasant on Coleman Boulevard. After his shift was over, Coffee admitted to hitting the booze pretty hard.

Then he said it got a little blurry. He told cops the next thing he remembered was being in the harbor and swimming for an excessively long time.

He managed to successfully swim across the harbor, finally making it to Drum Island. Coffee claimed he yelled out for help, asking for a blanket or jacket because he was freezing cold from the lengthy swim.

The island is approximately 3 and a half miles from the bar. And runners on a nearby bridge spotted him.

The Coast Guard along with Mount Pleasant firefighters assisted in the rescue efforts. During that time, Coffee kept busy.

He was observed floating in shallow water and resting on the shore in the fetal position.
