The Virginia Farm Bureau Federation released their annual estimate of how much Thanksgiving Dinner will cost state residents to prepare, and this year it’s going to be more than last.

$2.78 more, as the reported cost for full feast that feeds 10 adults and leaves a bit to snack on later has risen to 50 dollars and 1 cent.

Their estimate covers all the essentials like turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and cranberry sauce. It also includes a side of peas, a fresh veggie snack tray and some rolls. Don’t worry, they didn’t forget the pumpkin pie with whipped cream.

Driving a fair amount of the increase are the escalating prices of poultry and dairy nationwide.

Virginian turkey has gone up about 20 cents a pound since last year, and a gallon of milk has shot up around 25 cents in recent months.

The American Farm Federation Bureau reported that bread and potatoes are also more expensive.

On an up note for those in charge of preparing the labor-intensive meal, the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s estimate includes key time-saving convenience items like stuffing mix and canned pumpkin pie filling.

Also good news is that they didn’t factor in sale prices or coupons.
