Never underestimate the human resilience. 44-year-old Marco Lavoie of Quebec was last seen on July 16th of this year, when he departed for a canoe trip, but he was recently found alive.

He had planned on beginning a two-month canoe trip, but after that time span came and went, a friend reported him missing on October 21st. The problem was that Lavoie was definitely considered an adventurer, having been on similar long trips in the past, so nobody suspected anything was wrong until over three months had passed without contact.

Once cops were alerted of the situation, a search was underway to find him near the Nottaway River. A helicopter crew was recruited to locate him. After days of scouring the land around the river, Lavoie was spotted.

According to police, he had lost about half his body weight. He had also developed hypothermia. Investigators currently believe a bear found Lavoie's campsite and ate all his food and ruined his survival equipment.

Luckily Lavoie wasn’t attacked, but the lack of nourishment left him emaciated. He was unable to walk and talk when he was discovered. Rescuers were forced to carry him on their backs.

He is now in the hospital listed in critical condition.
