Ousted Egyptian president, Mohamed Mursi was taken away by helicopter after the first day of his trial in Cairo. State TV reported he was flown to a prison in Alexandria.
He and 14 other Muslim Brotherhood members face charges of inciting the killing of protesters outside the presidential palace.
The trial has been adjourned until January.
Mursi’s nephew, Mohamed Mursi dismissed its legitimacy, saying:” This trial is fake and an attempt by Sisi and his colleagues from the coup’s government to trick the Egyptian people. If there was a trial, then it would have been aired live to the Egyptian people so they can know what president Mursi did wrong, what he’s accused of and he would have had the right to defend himself.”
It was the ousted president’s first public appearance since his overthrow. In court he declared he was still Egypt’s legitimate leader.
The crackdown in the months since Mursi;s removal from power by the army has seen hundreds of his supporters killed.
