Homes and properties worth millions of euro have been impounded by a Spanish court investigating corruption claims against the king’s son-in-law.
Former Olympic handball player Inaki Urdangarin is accused of embezzling six million euros of public funds along with his business partner.
The court ordered the seizure of properties belonging to Urdangarin, husband of the king’s daughter Cristina, to cover a 6.1 million euro bond for his liability in the case.
The money was said to have been placed with a non-profit sports events organisation which Urdangarin chaired between 2004 and 2006.
He denies the charges.
King Juan Carlos’ family has seen its popularity plummet to its lowest level as a result of the scandal.
There has been growing criticism of the royals with Spain experiencing record economic hardship.
