A group of villagers, including a 3-year-old boy, were shot dead in a grocery store by suspected Muslim insurgents in Pattani province, southern Thailand.
According to Reuters the attack took place on Wednesday when four gunmen on motorcycles arrived at the store and sprayed it with bullets. They left a note saying "revenge for innocent" before fleeing the scene.
Local police say six people were killed and one man was injured. All six victims were Buddhists. The assailants fled on two motorcycles and dropped nails on the road to prevent security forces from pursuing them.
More than 5,000 people have been killed in southern Thailand since an Islamic insurgency began there in 2004.
