Buyers of lottery tickets will sometimes forget to check their numbers following the drawing. A woman in Alexandria, Virginia hit it right on time and recently claimed her $100,000 prize a mere four hours before the ticket was scheduled to expire.
The lady, Karen Gentry purchased a Cash 5, easy pick ticket roughly 6 months ago from a 7-Eleven store. Instead of putting the paper in a good spot so she could check the numbers, she stashed it away in a kitchen box and soon forgot all about it.
Well it turns out, she did in fact have the matching digits, deeming her a 6 figure winner, but she went on about life oblivious to that fact. That is until she saw a news report announcing that an unclaimed lottery ticket worth $100,000 was set to expire that very day.
That report jogged her memory. Gentry quickly checked that little slip of paper, still tucked away in the kitchen box, and realized it was the winner.
After claiming the cash, Gentry, who works as a carpet salesperson, claimed she does not know yet what she will do with her windfall.
