A prototype for a hybrid-drive vertical-take-off-and-landing flying car has been announced by Terrafugia.
The TF-X flying car will be able to reach heights of about 500 metres and can travel up to 800 kilometres a trip without needing to recharge or refuel.
Prospective pilots are in luck, as the designers say it will only take about five hours to learn how to operate the TF-X.
The wings of the flying car fold into the body of the vehicle to allow it to drive on roads and be parked in ordinary house garages.
The prototype requires a specialised landing and takeoff facility, similar to a helipad.
The model has recently been approved by the U.S. Civil Aviation Authority for civilian use, but commercial models are still about 12 years away, the designers say.
