Brutal knife attack: 4 children slain in Brooklyn's Sunset Park

Police say a 25-year-old Chinese immigrant has implicated himself in the brutal murder of a woman and her four young children in Brooklyn, New York, over the weekend.

Police believe that suspect Chen Mingdong, who is is the cousin of the dead woman's husband, used a kitchen knife to butcher the five late Saturday night in their apartment on 57th Street in Brooklyn's Sunset Park.

Chen, 25, had been living with Li Qiaozhen and her family for a week. On Saturday night Li became concerned. She called her husband who was working but he didn't answer, so she tried her mother-in-law in China who in turn contacted her daughter.

The daughter and husband arrived at Li's home only to find Chen, whom they didn't know, covered in blood. They called 911.

Officers responded just before 11 p.m. and found Chen in the house with a large knife and scissors nearby.

Then in a back bedroom they found the four children ages 1 to 9 next to their mother. All had multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso. The children's father returned home from work to the horrific scene.

Nine-year-old Linda, 7-year-old Amy and 1-year-old William were pronounced dead at the scene. Five-year-old Kevin and their 37-year-old mother died in hospital.
Neighbors reported hearing loud arguments coming from the apartment several nights before the murders.

NYPD Chief of Department Philip Banks told reporters Chen had moved to the US from China in 2004 yet still only speaks Mandarin Chinese.

Yuan Gao, a cousin of the mother, described Chen as "crazy" and said he kept getting fired from restaurant jobs after only a few weeks of employment.
