Karva Chauth - A ritual of fasting observed by married women seeking the long life of their Husband

Karva Chauth is an annual festival and celebrated by the Hindu married women in India. On this day women do fast, pray for her husband's long life and progress. It is mostly celebrated in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Married Women have fast from Sunrise to moonrise of the day. At this day women do not take anything whole day. Unmarried women also observe the fast for their fiancés. On this day Husband gives gifts and also takes her to restaurant or hotel for dinner. Some husband makes dinner for her loving wife. It is a great opportunity to close their laws and husband. It is a festival of joy, ritual and prayers.

The celebration of Karva Chauth is typical of the unflagging devotion of a wife toward her husband. It is praise nine days before Diwali, or the celebration of lights, on the fourth day of the melting away moon in the Hindu month of Kartik, around October-November. Married women and unmarried women start their fast of Karva chauth.
