Friends and family of the mystery girl found living in a Greek Roma community are celebrating.
After the girl's biological parents were discovered in a Bulgarian Roma community, a leader of the Greek Roma says they feel vindicated.
(SOUNDBITE)(Greek) PRESIDENT OF ROMA FARSALA COMMUNITY CHARALAMBOS DIMITRIOU, SAYING:
"The journalists kept saying the child had been abducted. Unfortunately for them the child was not abducted. This was a mistake of the journalists. We are happy that the real mother was found and there was a breakthrough."
The girl, known as Maria, had been living in Farsala with this couple, who are now being held in jail for charges of child abduction.
They told officials the child was given to them in 2009 by the Bulgarian mother because she could not care for the child.
A lawyer representing the couple says her legal team will do everything they can to free the couple and have Maria returned.
