STORY: An island-wide evacuation advisory was issued for all residents of Izu Oshima on Friday (October 25), as tropical storm Francisco threatened heavy rains and possibly more landslides, as it made its way north close to the Japanese mainland.
Though no longer a typhoon, Francisco is expected to dump record rainfalls once more on parts of Japan as it brushes by, including Izu Oshima that saw 31 killed and 13 missing after Typhoon Wipha last week.
Already 1,500 elderly, women and children and their care-takers have been evacuated by sea to the capital Tokyo, 120 kilometres (74.5 miles) away over the past two days.
The remaining residents Izu Oshima are to be evacuated in schools and centres considered to be in safe locations around the island, until the storm passes by.
