Two people were injured during a jewellery shop robbery in a high-class shopping district in the centre of Milan.
According to La Repubblica, one of the thieves entered the Franck Muller shop in Via della Spiga at around 11:40 am. He was well dressed and acted like a buyer.
Once inside, he held open the door to allow five accomplices wearing black clothes, full-face masks and armed with bats, bars, axes and molotov cocktails to enter the shop.
According to reports, the armed men attacked the security guard, a 39-year-old man, with a bar in the stomach. They then beat the shop manager.
After the assault, they smashed about 10 jewellery display cases, taking the contents before making their escape.
According to Italian media, the manager gave chase, but was stopped when the gang threw several molotov bombs in front of the shop and along the street to facilitate their escape. The first molotov bomb was thrown in front of the shop, the second one at the corner with Via Manzoni, the third one in Via Borgospesso.
According to Italian media, the total value of the stolen goods has not yet been calculated. Investigators are now examining security footage from outside and inside the shop.
