The fashion magazine, Elle honored eight women for their impact in Hollywood and the film industry Monday night. (October 21)
Comedic actress Melissa McCarthy was among those honored.
The actress, who was featured on the November cover of the magazine in a photo that showed her covered up in a green trench coat, dismissed critics who called the cover fat-shaming, but McCarthy joked about the controversy and explained that it was her choice.

"I appreciate that people are maybe protective of that kind of thing but it was completely my doing. I went crazy for the coat and I grabbed it."
Oscar-winning Actress Reese Witherspoon, who appeared recently on the cover of Elle, was also recognized.
Among the other honorees included Oscar-winning stars Marion Cottillard and Eva Marie Saint.
