Turkish police fired teargas at protesters on the fourth day of demonstrations against Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's government in Ankara on Monday. It was reported that police fired teargas at about 1,000 demonstrators, mostly young people, when they advanced towards their lines in the central Kizilay square while chanting "Tayyip resign".
According to Reuters, hundreds of police and protesters have been injured since Friday in the riots, which began with a demonstration to halt construction in a park in an Istanbul square and grew into mass protests against what opponents call Erdogan's authoritarianism.
Erdogan also accused anti-government protesters of walking "arm-in-arm with terrorism" on Monday, which could further inflame public anger.
