Me playing the organ at St Andrew's Church in the village of Preston just outside Weymouth, Dorset.
The organ was built in 1951 by the John Compton Organ Company Ltd where it replaced a single manual instrument by Bishop. The organ is the 2 rank 'Miniatura' model which was designed for the smaller church such like this. The specification reads:
PEDAL
Bourdon 16'
Flute 8'
GREAT
Bourdon 16'
Open Diapason 8'
Rohr Gedeckt 8'
Principal 4'
Fifteenth 2'
SWELL
Open Diapason 8'
Rohr Gedeckt 8'
Flute 4'
Piccolo 2'
As always when I visited an area, I always like to try and play something that has a local connection so I am playing the hymn 'Jesu, thou joy of loving hearts' to the tune 'Wareham' which is the name of the Dorset town sixteen miles away.
Many thanks to the church officials for allowing me access to this little gem of a Compton organ.
