The crusader against illegal mining and founder of Samaj Parivartana Samudaya Vedike, S.R. Hiremath has demanded the resignation of Information and Infrastructure Minister Santosh Lad for his involvement in illegal mining at Bellary.
Hiremath has released documents pertaining to the partnership deed of V.S. Lad and Sons mining company owned by Lad brothers in which Santosh Lad is one of the major stake holders. According to the partnership deed, Santosh Lad has a 25% profit share of V.S. Lad and Sons. He has also adhered to the provisions of the Indian Partnership Act, 1932, claimed Hiremath.
Referring to Lad repeated claims that he was not involved in illegal mining, Hhiremath said the second part of the Lokayukta report states that “67,054.976 metric tonne of iron ore was supplied between January 19, 2009 and February 18,2010 at SMSPL’s plot in Belekeri port in the name of VSL. The term VSL clearly refers to material belonging to V.S. Lad and Sons”, Hiremath said.
M/s VS Lad & Sons and M/s. VSL Mining Company Pvt. Ltd strongly refuted the allegations saying they were a registered partnership concern in the field of mining since 1956. The company is involved in mineral trading and export since 2005. This company does not have any mining licence.
The term "VSL" would mean M/s. VS Lad & Sons is erroneous & misleading. The common misconception is that both entities are one and the same which is not the case, the release stated.
VS Lad & Sons were not involved in export of iron ore from Belekeri port, the release added.
