Alcalá de Henares (Spain), 23 Apr (EFE).- Spain's Prince of Asturias presented the Cervantes Award on Monday to Cristobal Ugarte, who accepted the prize on behalf of his grandfather, Nicanor Parra, who was unable to travel to Spain from his native Chile because of his age.

Prince Felipe stood in for his father King Juan Carlos, who normally presents the award at the ceremony, held at Alcala de Henares every year, but was also unable to attend as he continues to recover from a hip operation.

The Cervantes Award is presented on 23 April to commemorate the death of both Cervantes and Shakespeare.
