There’s no better outcome for a shelter dog than to end up in a loving and deserving home. One pooch in Colorado Springs couldn’t wait for a new family to come to him, so he went and found one for himself.
On a recent Tuesday, at about 1 in the morning, the dog named Houdini managed to squirm out of his kennel room at the local Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region. The five-year-old Australian shepherd somehow managed to push down handles and charge through the doors to let himself out of the building.
The dog’s mischievous and surprising feat was caught on camera. After his escape, Houdini walked about a mile away from the shelter and began wandering in a residential neighborhood.
A woman named Ashley Heister found the pooch gallivanting all alone and took right to him. She has decided to adopt Houdini.
Heister stated “We think he's a wonderful dog and as much as I would love his owner to come and claim him . . . I can't wait to welcome him into my family.”
