The effectiveness of anger management classes is still up for debate. A man in Ferndale, Michigan was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman he met in anger management classes.
55-year-old Jeffrey Richards was taken into police custody for domestic violence in June of this year. As part of his punishment he was court ordered to attend the anger classes.
He soon developed a relationship with a 52-year-old woman who also attended the course. On September 16th, Richards reportedly grabbed the unidentified lady by the neck, pushed her to the floor and choked her. He also punched the woman in the face.
Ferndale Police Detective Ken Denmark described the motive stating “According to the woman they were having sex but were not in a committed relationship. On the night this happened she said they were drinking together when Richards told her he wanted to begin a regular dating relationship.“
The victim told Richards she wasn't interested in anything serious and that sent him into the violent rage.Thankfully the woman was able to get away from Richards and contact police.
Richards is now facing a felony charge of assault by strangulation.
