Wingsuit flying is a fast-growing sport.

In a heartbreaking report, the body of Victor Kovats was recently found at the foot of a cliff in the Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park, which is located in China. The Hungarian wing suit flier reportedly smashed his skull.

For those who are unfamiliar with the sport, wingsuit flying is when participants basically glide through the air wearing a specially crafted suit, which has a special material under the arms and legs to help slow the rapid rate of descent. An investigation has now been launched into Kovats death but its currently believed his parachute failed to deploy, causing him to crash into the cliff.

There is also a possibility a gust of wind led him off course. Kovats had been flying on the day of the tragic incident, as part of a practice flight for the World Championships.

Approximately 200 firefighters and police officials took part in the search efforts to find Kovats after witnesses lost sight of him. A spokesperson for the World Wingsuit League stated “He will be always be remembered for his deep passion for life and his spirit of adventure, and he will be sadly missed in the wingsuit community.”
