Predictions for Climate Change Fallout Dire

With so much of the talk about climate change dominated by what’s happening at the poles, a group of scientists recently pointed out that things are likely to get bad in the tropics as well.

The study from the University of Hawaii at Manoa shows that the fallout will be just as dire there, if not worse, than it will in historically cooler, and much talked about, geographic areas.

One reason is that in the tropics it takes a change of fewer degrees to yield catastrophic results. Both humans and other species residing there have less room to play with when it comes to rising temperatures.

And escalate they will, say the scientists. In fact, according to their study, many tropical regions will experience greater temperature spikes 16 years before other areas around the world, beginning as soon as 2020 in Indonesia.

Without emissions cutbacks, by 2047 global temperatures will be greater than any recorded between 1860 and 2005, with some differences in the exact years for each region.

Specifically mentioned in the research publication was that the areas least able to deal with the changes – or prevent them – are the ones who will bear their brunt.
