Egypt's Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim is safe after explosives were detonated by his motorcade in eastern Cairo on Thursday.

One driver and several bystanders were injured in the explosion, a security official told CNN.

Details of the attack are still murky although security officials have said that the explosions came from a remote-controlled bomb strapped to a nearby motorcycle.

Other reports speculate the attack may have come from a suicide car bombing or were even thrown off a roof.

Egypt's Prime Minister, Hazem Beblawi's office condemned the attack in a statement.

"The Cabinet confirms that this criminal offense will not deter the government from facing off terrorism with force and determination, or hitting with an iron fist any hand that jeopardizes the nation's safety, and that is until stability returns to the corners of our beloved Egypt," the statement read.
