Child sex offenders to have permanent police tracking device

2013-10-07 2

Child sex offenders could be forced to wear tracking devices upon their release from prison, if proposed legislation in South Australia is made law.

The legislation aims to ramp up the monitoring of child sex offenders upon their release from prison and reintegration in society.

The bill projects convicted pedophiles will wear a GPS tracking bracelet at all times so police can monitor their movements.

Offenders will also be prevented from entering any vocation focused on child care, work as a taxi driver, or work in the car hire industry.

The new measures would be some of the toughest in Australia.
