Mass shooting: Three people were killed and four were injured when a gunman opened fired on a town supervisors' meeting in rural Pennsylvania on Monday, August 5.

Just before 7:30 p.m., a man fired shots from what one witness described as a "long gun" through windows as he walked toward the building's entrance. Once inside he fired randomly at the 15 attendees. One man's head was grazed by a bullet.

The shooter then took a handgun from his car and went back inside as one person escaped and others took cover behind a table.

A township official caught the man by surprise, wrestled him to the ground and shot him in the leg with his own gun, according to witness accounts. Another man helped restrain him until police arrived.

Two people died at the scene, while another died later in hospital. Police have identified the shooter as 59-year-old Rockne Newell. Newell had an ongoing dispute with local authorities involving the condemnation of his property and issues with his sewer, but it is unclear whether he knew any of his victims.
