Man shoots son, himself at YWCA in New Hampshire

A man shot and killed his 9-year-old son during a supervised visit at a New Hampshire YWCA before turning the gun on himself and committing suicide on Sunday morning.

Muni Savyon, 54, was the estranged father of 9-year-old Joshua Savyon, and had been separated from the boy's mother for several year. The tragic shooting occurred during the one-hour supervised visit at the YWCA center in Manchester while an unidentified male supervisor was in the room, according to officials. The supervisor was not harmed in the incident.

The visit began at 9:30 a.m., and reports say Savyon armed himself with a handgun partway through the session. Police were first alerted to the scene at 10:11 a.m., and surrounded the building before a SWAT team entered building. Officers found the bodies of Savyon and his son on the second floor of the facility, where supervised visits typically take place.

Rabbi Levi Krinsky of Chabad Lubavitch in Manchester said Savyon seemed "clearly spaced, his eyes not focused" when he spoke to him a week ago, according to the Boston Globe. Krinsky added that Savyon's brother had died five weeks earlier in Israel, and Savyon had emailed a friend hinting that "he was going to do something of this nature." However, Krinsky said although Savyon seemed "very broken", the rabbi did not think he was suicidal or dangerous.

Meanwhile, the attorney general of Manchester said that Savyon has made threats in the past to kill himself, his son's mother and their son.
