James DiMaggio killed by FBI: Missing California teen Hannah Anderson, last seen on August 3, was found alive and well on Saturday. FBI agents shot and killed James DiMaggio, the man suspected of kidnapping her and murdering her mother and younger brother, during a raid on DiMaggio's campsite in a remote part of Idaho.

The bodies of Anderson's mother, Christina, and her brother, 8-year-old Ethan, were found in DiMaggio's torched house on August 4. Police issued an Amber Alert for DiMaggio's Blue Nissan Versa shortly afterward.

Days later a group of people on horseback saw Anderson and DiMaggio hiking. One person later said she saw DiMaggio move closer to the girl as they approached.

The group saw the pair a second time, and although they found Anderson reticent, they saw no cause for alarm.

They later discovered Anderson was a missing teen, and informed police of the whereabouts of DiMaggio's car, which had been hidden and stripped of its license plates.

A search by state and federal authorities spotted the pair's campsite from the air and armed agents were sent in.

Tactical FBI agents staked out the camp and waited until the DiMaggio and the girl were safely separated before moving in. They then rushed Anderson to a clearing where she was taken away by helicopter.

During the attempted arrest, an agent shot DiMaggio, killing him. It remains unclear whether DiMaggio was armed.

Anderson's family was elated at the news of her safe return. San Diego officials said DiMaggio had an "unusual infatuation" with Anderson, but added that she appeared to be with DiMaggio of her own free will.
