Doritos and pot! Perfect match at Seattle hemp festival

2013-10-04 9

"Operation Orange Fingers", the latest Seattle Police Department campaign since the legalisation of smoking marijuana last year kicked off to mass fanfare at the Seattle Hempfest.

However, the ploy, to educate people on the do's and don'ts of I-520, the law legalising the smoking of dope in certain situations only lasted ten minutes.

The Seattle Police Foundation had created a "Marijuwhatnow Literature" sticker label for thousands of packets of Doritos trips. The label explained what exactly is allowed under the new pot legalisation. Policeman handed out the salty snacks to festival-goers attending the Seattle Hemp Festival - the largest marijuana law reform festival in the world.

However, the free snacks were such a hit with the potlovers that after ten minutes, the police department had given away their entire stash!

Of course, the cops saw the irony in handing out Doritos to potheads and hoped that the message delivered in good humour would create a better impact.

I-520 allows users to own marijuana and smoke it in private. But, as the Operation Orange Fingers tried to highlight, weed lovers cannot be high while driving, cannot own plants, sell marijuana or give it to an underage person.

Instead, the Doritos stickers explain, the police encourage users to have a toke in their rooms at home, listening to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon at a reasonable volume.

Sounds pretty fair to us - and thanks for the snacks!
