Animal babies are an eagerly anticipated sight at zoos around the world.

The Nashville Zoo is one place where animal babies are in abundance. Four giant anteater pups have been born there over the past 11 months.

The newest additions bring the facility’s anteater population to 15, which makes them the largest group at any one location in North America. The youngest pup is a little over a month old.

A spokesperson at the zoo stated “There are not many of the species within the zoo community. We don’t have a timeline for their habitat yet. A lot of that would depend on a donor funding the exhibit.”

Anteaters are considered a threatened species in both captivity and in the wild. The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists the Giant Anteater as vulnerable.

The cause is reportedly due to habitat loss and hunting. The Nashville Zoo is also home to several other new arrivals including a pair of 20-year-old Galapagos tortoises named Bella and Darwin.

They were placed on public exhibit at the end of July.
