While inquiring about his mobile phones at a wireless service store, a Pueblo, Colorado detective was approached by a man allegedly claiming to be a police officer.
Roland Herrera, a 63-year old from Texas, started the conversation by asking the detective why he had so many cell phones.
The detective didn’t answer, but Herrera persisted.
He continued by asking the detective what he was doing with so many phones. After that he asked the deputy if he was a drug dealer.
Still not able to elicit a response from the officer, Herrrera claimed to be a cop and demanded that the detective hand over all of his drugs.
Those were the magic words that got the real cop talking.
He told Herrera to show him credentials, but instead, Herrera just asked for the drugs again.
That’s when the detective pulled out his own badge and arrested the imposter for impersonating an officer.
How could he be so sure Herrera was a fake?
Turns out that when asked, law enforcement personnel must show their credentials.
Also, they don’t take impersonation lightly. Herrera’s bail has been set at 25 thousand dollars.
