A powerful car bomb struck southern Beirut, Lebanon on August 15. At least 20 people died and 120 injured while many others were trapped inside buildings at the scene.

According to Reuters, a Sunni Islamist group calling itself the Brigades of Aisha claimed responsibility for the attack and promised more operations against Hezbollah.

Local media reports that about 60 to 80 kilograms of explosive materials were used in the blast and a suicide bomber could have detonated the bomb.

The blast came only a month after a car bomb injured more than 50 people in the same district of the Lebanese capital amid growing sectarian tensions over the intervention of Shi'ite Muslim Hezbollah against Sunni rebels in Syria's civil war.
