Piers Morgan: Jon Stewart is over after Emmy loss

2013-09-26 33

Piers Morgan vs Jon Stewart feud? Not likely, but Morgan is certainly trying to pick a fight, publicly attacking Stewart via Twitter after Stephen Colbert won an Emmy on Sunday, snapping Stewart's 10-year winning streak.

It was an impressive run. Jon Stewart and The Daily Show have won an emmy for best variety series for 10 years straight. But on Sunday, The Colbert Report picked up a long overdue statue in the category.

Piers Morgan, no fan of Jon Stewart, went on the attack. He wrote on Twitter: "CNN BREAKING NEWS It's over for Jon Stewart.... @StephenAtHome wins again."

Morgan is upset because Jon Stewart and The Daily Show have frequently mocked CNN's bungled coverage of important events, from the Boston Marathon bombing to the Washington Navy Yard shooting. During those events, short of facts to report, the major networks fall back on conjecture and speculation.

But it doesn't seem Morgan is in command of the facts, even when they are available to him. The Colbert Report is also a win for Jon Stewart, who is an executive producer and co-creator of the show. In his acceptance speech, Colbert thanked Stewart, calling him "my brother", and said the show wouldn't have been possible without him.

Furthermore, Stewart's audience is 2 million viewers versus the 600,000 that tune into Piers Morgan on a good night. With those kinds of numbers, it's Morgan who is closer to being over.

Will Stewart respond to the tweet? If there is a good joke to be had, then Stewart will come out swinging. Otherwise, Morgan is likely to be ignored.
