Having a disability doesn’t stop someone from being a hero. That rule also applies to animals, specifically dogs.

Recently an English Springer Spaniel named Bonnie helped catch a burglar by alerting her owner that an intruder was in the house. The most amazing aspect of the heroic efforts is that Bonnie is deaf.

Bonnie lives with her owner, Dan Strasser in Salem, Oregon. On a recent Saturday, at about 6 in the morning, Dan awoke to hear Bonnie running around the living room of the family home.

He jumped out of bed to see why the dog was so wound up and found an unknown man in his home. Although Bonnie didn’t attack the intruder or bark, she made enough noise to alert Dan that a person was in the house.

Strasser stated “She smelled him because she does have a very good sense of smell. She jumped up and got all excited thinking someone was there to play.” Once confronted, the suspect tried to flee, but Strasser, who was armed with a gun, cornered the male in the garage while his girlfriend called 911.

Police arrived on scene and arrested the man.
