However for women in Prince George's County, Maryland, fueling up can instantly make them the target of thieves.
Local police are warning females that a team of thieves stealing purses from unoccupied and unlocked vehicles is still at large. They strike while women are in the back of the car gassing up. The thefts occurred several weeks back at a gas station in Bowie, Maryland.
The criminals’ M.O. is always the same. The victim innocently pumps gas, while the thief picks the precise moment to open the unattended side of the vehicle and steal belongings. A getaway car parked nearby drives off with the perp once the theft is complete.
The crimes take only a matter of seconds and the victim doesn’t notice anything is wrong until it’s too late. Surveillance footage has now been released and police authorities have handed out fliers, as a warning.
There are currently no suspects, but law enforcement workers are asking ladies to keep a watchful eye on their surroundings while getting gas and to lock their vehicles.
